August/Ann Jewelry
Erin Griffin
The first time I turned on a torch and made a piece of copper red-hot, I thought, “Oh, yeah, this is it.” My metalwork is the result of decades of trying out every art medium under the sun and sticking with the one that yields small, wearable, accessible keepsakes that add a little levity and sparkle to life. I am inspired by nature and greatly enjoy the process of hunting for stones to use in my work and then letting them steer where the work goes. I also love to figure things out, and metalsmithing is nothing if not an endless series of problems to solve.
I grew up in St. Pete and have watched it evolve over the decades. I’ve taken endless classes in various mediums at the Morean Arts Center and learned metalsmithing from Brenda Gregory who is as smart and funny a mentor as you could ask for. The studio there (and my studio here at 400 Arts) are my happy places. Thank you for checking out my work.
